The world as I once knew it changed when the internet truly found its feet.
When I was a child having a computer was a REAL luxury !
and the only way to get on the 'internet' then was to connect your computer to the house phone
and boy was it slow and the noise it made was awful !!
Spectrum's and Atari's were the game systems we had and
by golly did we think we were the cool kids when we got them !!
Now days most homes have internet either via broadband, WiFi or on phones /tablets.
Xbox's, PlayStation and all the other high tech games systems are common place some families have a couple and some chop and change between systems as the systems get more and more advanced and most of them connect to the internet.
The huge computers of my childhood with their ghastly green screens have all gone and now we have full colour monitors, compact towers, laptops, notebooks and tablets.
Now my family is no different to any other families these days the children have the games consoles we have laptops tablets and phones all with internet access.
As a child to find things out and research things I had to go to libraries, speak to people and generally work my butt off to find out the information I sought.
These days I just boot up Google and ask my questions and I get multiple answers to my query.
Which 99% of the time is fantastic!
BUT......................
When you get so many answers and so many of them offer different perspectives and sometimes they even contradict each other! I am left more confused than before I did my search.
Today we are lucky have a whole world of information at our finger tips we no longer have to spend days gathering the information we seek but sometimes just sometimes I miss the days when
if someone trusted told you the answer it was taken as gospel
or so n so's mum did it a certain way and it came out perfect every time that was they way you did it !
Sometimes after sitting in a library reading as many books on the subject as you could until you found the answer you sought gave you a better understanding of the subject in general and you could grasp the concept better as a whole.
It seems to me that yes the internet is fantastic and having all the information you need at your fingertips
is very helpful but in the same breath we have lost so much in the way we get information or pass on knowledge.
and in my case today on my very long internet search I have been given so many differing answers by google
I am full to the brim with information but in some ways no further along than I was when I began my quest this morning!
Now before anyone slams me am I complaining NO not at all !
I believe that we are lucky to have such information there for us all to see and use
I am all for technological advances
but I am also missing the way things used to be.
